| What is Abuse? |
|
Abuse can take many forms. Many people are familiar with Physical Abuse, which includes the following: Being punched, hit, shoved, kicked, beaten, assaulted with or without weapons; Being choked; Being strangled; Being stabbed. Sexual and mental abuse are as common, as terrifying and as damaging as physical abuse. But they are harder to see and may be more difficult for women to name. Sexual Abuse Rape; Being forced to take part in any kind of sexual act which you do not want to; Being forced to watch or participate in pornography against your will; Being denied access to contraception. Mental Abuse Threats (including to kill); Damage to property/pets; Being shouted at; Intimidation; Being denied access to finances; Having your freedom controlled. Many women are subjected to multiple forms of abuse at the same time. |
